Kate McGrath, Esq. was born in Salem, Oregon and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Growing up in Alaska, Kate developed a special appreciation and love for small communities, which ultimately led her to Hagerstown. She moved to Maryland in 2022 with her husband, a life-long Marylander.
Kate graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Southern Oregon University before receiving her Juris Doctorate degree at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. During her time in law school she was an active member of the Women’s Law Caucus, an Associate Editor of the Gonzaga Law Review, and a student attorney for the Gonzaga Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. She graduated in the top 10% of her class and received CALI awards in Legal Research and Writing, Education Law, Employment Law, and Taxation of Gifts and Estates.
Upon moving to Hagerstown, Kate clerked in the Washington County Circuit Court for the Honorable Brett R. Wilson, the Honorable Kirk C. Downey, and the late Honorable Andrew F. Wilkinson. There she learned valuable legal research, writing, and litigation skills. Kate joined our firm in 2025 and focuses on the discovery process of litigation with an emphasis on legal research and writing.
In her spare time, Kate is an avid board-gamer and enjoys playing complex strategy games. She enjoys exploring all that Washington County and Western Maryland has to offer.
