At The Poole Law Group, our slogan is "When it Matters Most" and we work to ensure its meaning extends beyond the courtroom. The Poole Law Group employees are actively involved in their communities through volunteerism and support of the arts, environment, kids organizations and local schools, legal scholarship and aid funds, and our first responders in Washington County, Maryland. We are also proud to support Bruce Poole in his service as Chair of the Board of Visitors for the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland (Baltimore). Bruce also served as co-counsel for the Maryland State Firemen's Association.
To date in 2024, we have supported the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center University of Maryland, the Maryland Bar Foundation, Inc. (MBF's Giving Tuesday Campaign), the 10th Jim Snead Kiwanis Golf Tournament, Hospice of Washington County's Have a Heart Campaign, HARC's Hike for Hunger & Hope (Micah's Backpack program), Washington Goes Purple, and the Washington County Bar Association's Gordy Lynn Memorial Golf Tournament. We are also underwriting the "Birds over Antietam" sporting clays tournament to support the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company.
In 2023, the firm supported health and social services causes including the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the United Ostomy Association of America, Inc., the Allegany County Department of Social Services ("3rd Annual Crabs for a Cause" to support the elderly), the Washington County Commission on Aging, and HARC through it's HARC Hike for Hunger & Hope (supporting the local Micah's Backpack hunger program). We also served as a sponsor of the JFK 50 race through the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club, St. Maria Goretti High School's golf fundraiser, and the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts' holiday lamp post campaign. We further provided funding to the Franklin County Bar Association to assist with pro bono case.
In 2022, we supported the Hon. Joseph F. Murphy, Jr. '69 Scholarship Endowment for the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Judge Murphy served as Judge, Court of Appeals, 2007-2011 and Chief Judge, Court of Special Appeals, 1996-2007. He was the author and editor of the Maryland Evidence Handbook, 1989 (2nd ed., 1993; 3rd ed., 1999; 4th ed., 2010) and a wonderful mentor and friend. We also supported the Maryland Legal Aid fund in memory of Washington County bar associate, Jim Johnson, and the Kannon Shives Memorial Scholarship - Be a Lion Fund and the Clayton Knode Scholarship Fund. This year we were also pleased to provide support to the Kiwanis' 8th Jim Snead golf tournament and Lasting Change's golf tournament. Lastly, we supported the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts Foundation in its sale of Merry Christmas lampposts downtown and the Guatemala SANA Children's Project.
In 2021, we underwrote the "Birds Over Antietam" clay shoot fundraiser for the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company and served as a sponsor of the local JFK 50 race through the Cumberland Valley Athletic Club. We also supported the Kiwanis' 7th Jim Snead golf tournament.
In 2019, given the firm's service as Maryland counsel for the MDL Consortium's national opioid tort litigation and our first-hand witness to the tragedy of the opioid crisis in Hagerstown and Western Maryland, we have continued to provide sponsorship to Washington Goes Purple, our community's pubic awareness substance abuse program targeting prescription opioids and heroin, and Brooke's House. The mission of Brooke's House is to inspire and empower women suffering from the disease of addiction by providing them a safe, stable, and emotionally supportive living environment while in the early stages of recover. Brooke's House will provide an effective community-based, sober living environment where women will work to remake their lives. We were also pleased to sponsor the Allegany County Department of Social Services' "Crabs for a Cause" crab feast in September. Proceeds raised are used to assist seniors in Allegany County, so that they can remain as safe and comfortable as possible as they age in their homes.
The firm also supported the 5th Annual Jim Snead Golf Tournament to benefit the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club, the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 golf tournament fundraiser, and the Robert W. Johnson Community Center.
In 2018, we sponsored Brooke's House, Washington Goes Purple, CASA, Inc.'s "Run, Jane, Run" golf event, the 4th Annual Jim Snead Golf Tournament to benefit the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club, the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 golf tournament fundraiser, the Robert W. Johnson Community Center, and the 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley Step 'N Stride Walk. Additionally, we provided funding for the purchase of National Child Safety Council materials in support of the local safety and drug education program provided by the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
In 2017, the firm sponsored both the Mason-Dixon Boy Scouts of America sporting clays shoot held at Actor's Hill in Keedysville, the C&O Canal Trust's 'Canal Pride' clean up event held in Williamsport for the C&O Canal National Historic Park, and Hospice of Frederick County's 7th Annual Goose Hunt in memory of Judge Herb Rollins and Donald R. Grossnickle.
We were also proud to sponsor a hole and two employee teams for the 3rd Annual Jim Snead Golf Tournament to benefit the Hagerstown Kiwanis Club and to serve as a sponsor to the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42 golf tournament fundraiser.
Lastly, we helped to sponsor the Maryland Entertainment Group's (MEG) production of "To Kill A Mockingbird" and provided funding for the Washington County Museum of Fine Art's "HVAC Replacement and Upgrade" Fund. The Museum is nationally accredited and its collection of over 7500 works of art is one of Washington County's premier treasures.
